BIO of Speaker: MELVYN B. STEIN Melvyn B. Stein was born in Los Angeles, California on September 12, 1941 and has resided in San Diego for over 60 years. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree from California Western School of Law. He has been a California attorney in private practice since 1966 in civil and criminal law and now limits his legal activities to Family Law, Wills and Trusts. He is admitted to practice before all Federal and California Courts and the United States Supreme Court.
In community affairs, Mel Stein has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospital for Children, Judge Pro-Tem in the Superior Court, Board of Directors of the San Diego Imperial Council of Girl Scouts, Chairman of the San Diego Kiwanis Foundation, President of the Harbor Optimist Club, Chairman of the La Mesa Unified School District Racial and Ethnic Balance Committee, Board of Directors of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and as a Director of Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball. Masonically, Mel Stein has been a Mason for 45 years and became Master of San Diego Lodge No. 35 in 1972 ( with 1100 members). He served as Venerable Master of the Scottish Rite Valley of San Diego and is a Thirty-Third Degree Mason. He joined Al Bahr Shriners in San Diego in 1964 and became Potentate in 2000. At the Masonic state level he served as Grand Orator and became the Grand Master of Masons of the State of California in September of 2006 (65,000 Masons). He spent 32 years on numerous boards and committees of the Grand Lodge including Trustee of the Masonic Homes of California (with campuses in Covina and Union City), the California Masonic Foundation, California Masonic Temple in San Francisco and Committees on Policy and General Purposes , Trial Review, Jurisprudence, Research and Long Range Planning. In 1973 he married his wife, Betty. They have two sons and a daughter, all of whom are college graduates, married and each have contributed to their having six grandchildren. Our Second Wednesday evening of each month meetings usually has guest speakers, decent free food, networking with those with like minded interests, and includes NCFM-SD and associated groups' updates, activities, and business. It's a great place to learn about issues, get support, discuss you personal situations, hear about legal and legislative processes, and become involved with action oriented activism.
