Larry Kerkman, “Mr. CRISPE”, invites you and your family to the upcoming San Diego March 15, 2008 St. Patrick Day Parade @ 10 a.m. in Balboa Park (more information about the parade at the link above).

Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival  ----  Starts at 10 am in Balboa Park near 6th & Maple; Parade steps off at 6th & Juniper at 11am. Festival in the Park featuring food booths, beer service, kiddy rides, various vendors begins at 9 am. Official Parade shirts will be on sale.

The Festival in the Park has grown bigger and better with each passing year. This year we have great assortment of bands, Irish dance performances, food and vendors.

The festival will be set up in Balboa Park, along Sixth Street between Laurel St. and Nutmeg St. The festival grounds will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The CRISPE coach and crew were big hits at the recent Martin Luther King Day parade in San Diego. We need to make sure the CRISPE crew includes 100 or more for the St. Patrick Day Parade. So, please, if you are within a few hundred miles of San Diego in March plan on joining us. Calendar it now please. Plan on having a good time. Get a free CRISPE t-shirt for you and anyone you bring along. Refreshments and continental type breakfast will be on the CRISPE coach.  We will also be having a barbeque right after the parade so come on over and celebrate St. Patrick's Day and support children's rights to share both parents EQUALLY.

Reminder look for the big purple bus.  We are #245 in the parade.  Try to get to the staging area at 6th and Ivy no later than 10:30  We have hats and shirts to wear and it will give you some time to find what you will like.  Park over at Balboa Parking lot and walk over.  Allow a little bit of extra time to find parking and walking to where the bus is at.  The parades steps off at 11:00.

We are going to have a lot of fun!

Look forward to seeing you there!

Irish Congress of Southern California Inc.
2008 St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saturday March 15th, 2008
Honoring Service and Rescued Animals

Welcome to our parade! This serves as your official notice of entry into the parade. Following is all the
   pertinent information you will need.
Check in for all entries (please ONE representative from your group to check-in) is located at the corner
of Balboa Drive and Juniper Street. The staging letter MUST be presented at check-in area.

Your check-in time is: 9:00     CRISPE
You are in Division:  II       You are Unit No: 245
   Your staging area: 6th /Ivy

We ask that your unit follows all parade marshal directions during the staging and the parade. Failure
could result in your entry not being invited in future parades. Feel free to ask any Marshal for
information and guidance. Please be patient! This is no small parade with over 150+ entries.
Everyone wishes to be in the beginning of the parade—logistically not possible, so please do not ask
for your staging assignment to be changed.

Just a reminder: NO hand-outs, throw, roll or in any other way distribute anything to anyone in the
audience for any reason (this is for everyone’s safety). Anyone who fails to comply with this rule will be
immediately removed from the parade route. Also keep in mind that this is a family parade. Thank you
in advance for your cooperation in this area.

Absolutely NO ALCOHOL is allowed in staging or on the parade route! Operators of vehicles of any
type are not allowed to drink prior to or during the parade. Failure to comply with this common sense rule
will result in being removed from the parade and being barred from future parades.

City of San Diego parks regulation of  NO SMOKING in the park area. Please watch for
signs designating the appropriate areas for smoking.

At check-in, you will be issued two entry numbers. Please attach by whatever means to the right and left
front of your entry—please bring your own supplies of tape, string or safety pins. This is the only way
our announcers and judges can determine your entry name.

There is absolutely NO PARKING in the staging areas. After the entry disembarks all buses or cars must
leave the area. There is parking on President’s Way across the Laurel Street Bridge or the Old Naval
Hospital with a free trolley service from there to the parade area every 20 minutes.

You may check-in early but DON’T BE LATE. No entry (no exceptions) will be allowed into the
   parade after 10:00am.

The members of the Irish Congress of Southern California extend their thanks for your interest and
involvement in our parade. Without you there would be no parade! Enjoy the day!
                                                                                                                Margie Johnson-2008 parade entry chair

equal parenting picnic flyer and Saint Patrick's day‏
From:    Harry Crouch (harryal@earthlink.net)

Hi,

THE FLYER

I spent most of the morning and this afternoon preparing the flyer for our upcoming Californian’s for Equal Parenting and CRISPE picnic on April 26, 2008 at Mission Bay Park. James Shaw presented the text of the flyer last night at one of our meetings.

But, no, could I leave it as is. Certainly not. Not my style, which is to mess with everything and anything that comes with 10 miles of my desk chair. All I wanted to do was add a nice CRISPE coach caricature as background. I figured out how to do that and deleted and added a few things from the prepared text. Started working on it around 9:00 a.m. after dealing with my first wave of morning emails. Had the whole thing done by about 11:30. Kevin Young showed up offering a free lunch, so Kevin and I ate and I shot the shi…err, talked about a number of things over Tex-Mex rolled tacos and burritos.

Got back to the office and started printing out flyers.  After printing out about 500 of the little suckers I went to work uploading images and links to a PDF version on www.californiamenscenters.org (upper right hand column “Links” page) so others, like you, can print out a ton of the things and pass them out at your favorite court house or public restroom, whatever your inclination. I’d just finished publishing the web work when a little birdie from the Men’s Legal Center upstairs flew into my office and chirped, “Harry, you need another proof reader”.  Shaking head now cradled in my cupped hands, elbows on desk, I new what was coming next. Birdie chirped, “The flyer says the picnic is off I-15. Not I-5”. She sensed my dismay when I shared, “X#*%X I just printed 500 of the #XX!X# things”… but thanks for sharing…!!X#XXX!!##...I appreciate ….XXX!!#@#$$X!... you telling me. I’m glad somebody spotted the XXX!!@X, XA@!!X#, XXSSD@!, mistake before I printed any more of the XXX!!@X, XA@!!X#, XXSSD@! things.” I sensed I frightened little birdie since she flew away somewhat faster than she flew in. Regardless, she was a nice Trish bird and I really do appreciate her spotting the mistake…XX!@@#X! Took me another hour to fix the XX!!@WX~! thing, turn everything into various graphic modes, and convert it all to a usable PDF. My printer is churning out more as I type…ARRRGH!

There should be soon links to the flyer at www.crispe.org too.

THE PARADE

Harry,

“Your entry stages at 6th/Ivy--did you get the e-mail confirmation letter with the info? Check-in is Juniper/Balboa Dr.---it's a couple blocks apart, thus you can park your entry at staging then come to check-in desk to receive the entry numbers. Any further questions, please call me at 858-278-8478--if I'm not in, please leave a number for call-back.

Thank you,
Margie”

Margie’s the nice lady helping coordinate the upcoming Saint Patrick’s Day Parade for the Irish. Larry, Mr. CRISPE as he likes to be called, signed us up, which is a good thing. CRISPE colors are purple. Saint Pat’s Day colors are green. Not a bad combination if you’re a fluorescent light bulb collector, a Burnie Dockers Football Club groupie (Australian rules), or seriously color deficient. We had lots of purple but no green. Linda Evans went shopping and last night dragged into the office everything green this side of the Mississippi except for trees and weeds. One can wear some of it, cut some of it, tape some of it, blow some of it up (with helium canister included 25 bucks), or pin on most of it preferably not near anything sensitive or something attached that you sit on. Green has landed amongst the purple and command central says it’s a go for the Irish parade, barring inclement weather of course, mechanical failure, and someone loosing the ignition keys to the CRISPE coach before launch.

So, for those of you able, wanting, and willing to parade with us you can start showing up at the staging area (near 6th and Ivy) around 9:00 a.m. for doughnuts, coffee, and to help sort out all the green from the purple. Parking sucks. Might be best to park in one of the lots near the museums in Balboa Park. If you get there early enough there should be plenty of parking in the lots immediately behind and to the south of museum row near the Alcazar Garden *, as well as behind Spreckels Organ Pavillion *.  Here’s a good map of Balboa Park and I believe the staging area which is on the left side of the map: http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/parks/balboa/facilities.shtml .Then it should only be roughly a six or so block walk to the staging area, I hope. Better bring some sunscreen, hat, and shades for the eyes. We’ll have plenty of bottled water for the thirsty and chairs for the weary.

We had tremendous fun at the Martin Luther King Day parade. Our procession was well received by others enjoying the parade. Unlike that parade the Irish don’t allow us to hand out anything to any onlookers.

So, we look forward to seeing those of you that can be here this Saturday to join us in the parade. Bring friends. Everyone gets a free CRISPE t-shirt, purple.

Take Care,

Here is the google map link of the location:

[web]http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=6th+and+ivy+%22san+diego%22&ie=UTF8&ll=32.733213,-117.155242&spn=0.014693,0.028238&z=15&pw=2[/web]

This is the google map of the location.  The CRISPE Bus will be there at 9am at 6th and Ivy.  Find free parking in Balboa Park at the visitor center and walk across the El Prado Bridge to Sixth and make your way up to Ivy and you will see the parade lining up.

Please give yourself enough time to find parking and walking to find the bus.

Coffee and donuts will be on the bus!
