Special Town Hall Meeting on Fluoridegate
Bishop McKinney Hosts Community Event

Dear members and friends of San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water,

You are invited to a town hall meeting and debate on fluoridation at St. Steven’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ on Monday, August 1, at 6:30 p.m., located at 5825 Imperial Avenue in San Diego. Please plan to arrive by 6 p.m.

Bishop McKinney will facilitate a panel of four, including representatives of the American Dental Association and David Kennedy, SDSDW member and past president of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.  Dr. Kennedy will be joined by Paul Connett, PhD (chemistry), internationally known authority on the hazards of fluoridation.

Bishop McKinney has convened this debate due to his concerns for the disproportionate harm done to minority children and other susceptible groups including elderly, kidney patients, diabetics and thyroid patients.

Please show your support for ending fluoridation in our community by your attendance at this important gathering and please extend this invitation to everyone you know who is concerned with this insult to our health and freedom of choice.  This meeting will be attended by media and local politicians and we hope to convene a large attendance of those opposed to fluoridation.  Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Connett are both knowledgeable and dynamic speakers. This promises to be an informative and entertaining event.

It is critical that we have a large attendance.  Please come if you can.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water
==========

As members of San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water (SDSDW), our goal is to stop the fluoride treatment here in San Diego. At our last planning meeting this past month, we initiated a letter writing campaign to our elected officials and the First 5 Commission.

We invite all of you to join this effort by visiting the SDSDW Web site (www.sdsdw.org), go to Call to Action to access the letters to the First 5 Commission and City Council members.

We are grateful for your interest and desire to support our cause, to stop our tap water from being treated with fluosilicic acid, and all the other bad chemicals that are also added without consideration of the harm to humans, the environment and defenseless animals.

It is time to take action. Join San Diegans for Safe Drinking Water, and help us kick off our letter writing campaign to First 5 San Diego and our elected city officials.

We have composed a series of letters, printed them, and obtained envelopes. Now we need YOU to help us show First 5 San Diego and our city council members that we do not appreciate their ill advised donation of $3.9 million to fund fluoride treatment of our drinking water. Without the donation, the city would not have been able to justify their blatant disregard for the will of its constituents by adding Hydrofluosilicic acid to our tap water. Charcoal filters Do Not Remove Fluoride or Hydrofluosilicic acid (the Acid that 'ate through' the first 'heavy metal Tank' at its first attempt to 'store it' onsite where it was first planned to be 'added' to our water).  Indeed, when asked Why it is still being put in our water, Councilman Todd Gloria simply said, "  It's only for two more years."  Does he think that 'Just 2 years' won't do any 'damage?'  How much More Good would $3.9 Million do to Help Children than causing permanent bone damage??

In 1954 San Diegans voted to ban fluoride compounds, and further banned any city official, whether elected or appointed, from adding fluoride to our tap water. The city administration says they have the option of following the state law instead of San Diego's ban on fluoride if they use "outside" funding.

First 5 San Diego's funding, which comes from tobacco taxes, was used as a loophole to undermine the will of San Diegans who voted TWICE to keep our water safe from fluoride. The Union Tribune did a poll in January 2011 which reflected that 66% of San Diegans are still opposed to fluoride in our water. Let’s inform First 5 and our elected city council members that they have been taken for a ride, ask them to take corrective action, and end their funding of this toxic program that causes disproportionate harm to our children.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you there!

From:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation_controversy -

In 1992, speaking on the Canadian television program Marketplace, former United States Environmental Protection Agency scientist Robert Carton claimed that "fluoridation is the greatest case of scientific fraud of this century." The practice was described as the "longest running public health controversy in North America" in the broadcast.[35]

In a presentation to the California Assembly Committee of Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials, Richard Foulkes, M.D., former special consultant to the Minister of Health of British Columbia, revealed:

The [water fluoridation] studies that were presented to me were selected and showed only positive results. Studies that were in existence at that time that did not fit the concept that they were "selling," were either omitted or declared to be "bad science." The endorsements had been won by coercion and the self-interest of professional elites. Some of the basic "facts" presented to me were, I found out later, of dubious validity. We are brought up to respect these persons in whom we have placed our trust to safeguard the public interest. It is difficult for each of us to accept that these may be misplaced.[36]

A 2001 study found that "fluoride, particularly in toothpastes, is a very important preventive agent against dental caries," but added that "additional fluoride to that currently available in toothpaste does not appear to be benefiting the teeth of the majority of people."[37]

On April 15, 2008, the United States National Kidney Foundation (NKF) updated their position on fluoridation for the first time since 1981.[38] Formerly an endorser of water fluoridation, the group is now neutral on the practice. The report states, “Individuals with CKD should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure by providing information on the NKF website including a link to the report in brief of the NRC [19] and the Kidney Health Australia position paper."*** [39] Calling for additional research, the foundation's current position paper states, however, that there is insufficient evidence to recommend fluoride-free drinking water for patients with renal disease.[40]

The International Chiropractor's Association opposes mass water fluoridation, considering it "possibly harmful and deprivation of the rights of citizens to be free from unwelcome mass medication."[41]
