A Discussion of Best Practices
ORHED Conference Call on Oct. 6
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Office of Rural Housing and Economic Development (ORHED) invites you to take part in its next peer-to-peer conference call. Scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, from 2-3:30 p.m., this call will offer participants the opportunity to learn about the current issues related to economic development activities and housing opportunities to support homeless veterans.
Leaders of various organizations dealing with assisting homeless veterans will share their knowledge of successfully implementing economic development activities and housing services that have expanded and created opportunities for those in need. Various organizations will have an opportunity to discuss and share issues related to economic development and the impact it has on homeless veterans. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about best practices, discuss the challenges of developing economic development activities and housing services to homeless veterans, and establish contacts for future reference.
Join ORHED and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) as we engage community leaders in this open forum on providing assistance to homeless veterans pertaining to economic development. Speakers will include John Driscoll, President and CEO, NCHV; Kathy Vitalis, Executive Director, Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans; Bill Burleigh, Executive Director, Operation Stand Down Nashville; and Melanie Lilliston, Technical Assistance Director, NCHV.

The types of economic development activities developed and implemented
Performance outcomes of the economic development activities
Public and private sources of funding to carry out projects
Best practices and lessons learned
Supportive and transitional housing
Format of the call:
Call-in instructions and additional materials will be emailed to participants on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. The call will consist of a 60-minute presentation by the speakers, followed by a Q-and-A session.
